Ireland to South America

Hi all,

A few of us are shipping our bikes in a 20ft container from Ireland to Buenos Aires at the beginning of October (shipping takes 4 weeks) and returning late December. There are some space(s) available either outbound or inbound if anybody is interested.
As we are in the early stages of planning, the final price, overall or per bike, has yet to be determined.
The plan at the moment is to use our own crates and leave them in BA for the return leg.
Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated with regard to port, customs import, clearance fees and other hidden charges in BA.

Many Thanks,
Dave

Hi Daithi

I did that trip in 2007 , New York to Ushuaia, sent the bike by ship to US in a crate. It took ages, and the cargo was delayed. Coming back i flew the bike with Lufthansa to Frankfurt direct.

Actually the cost was more or less similar at the time, hence my advice to you is to check the cost of aircargo from Frankfurt or London, you guarantee the arrival date .. which makes your own planning much easier. Otherwise crates can sit around a dock for a long time and also take longer to clear customs.. aircargo you rock up withthe bike.. take off the windshield, make sure there is little or no petrol inthe tank... they do the rest.

Hi Dave,

I've just organised my bike to be airfreighted out from Manchester to BA to arrive in Mid October, I looked at sea freight but due to time limits I opted for Air. I had some prices from different agents, but decided to go with a freight company we use at work. I'm crating it up myself to save money & Sandra from Dakar motors is helping me with the clearance in BA. See you over there.

Cheers
Jo

Hope you have a blast! They love the Irish here, but then, who doesn't? :-)
