Iran-UAE-Oman Visa Logistics
 

Hi all;

Riding from UK to Oz. Currently in Turkey. From Bandar Abbas in Iran we had planned to get the ferry to the UAE then tour Oman then come back to the UAE and ship the bke and ourselves towards India/Thailand (depending on costs).

Just found out that the UAE visa is 30 day single entry. So we can't go out and come back in as we please. Has anyone managed to get a multiple entry visa? (it says multiple is only for business purposes)

Has anyone shipped the bike from Muscat? Would it be loads more expensive there compared to Dubai? What are the main companies that ship out from Dubai? I'll drop them an email and ask whether they can do it from Oman too?

Oman is a big country but worth seeing. Mussandam is part of Oman and 2hrs from Dubai. It's a good area to visit. The rest of Oman is very nice also - especially south of Muscat.

If you are on a UK passport, you should be able to enter the UAE without a visa. Visa information for United Arab Emirates - ProjectVisa.com

You should also be able to go to Oman and return to the UAE without visa problems.

How did you get on and which company did you pick?

We are about to get to Dubai in a week or 10 days time and will be doing the rounds of the shipping agents. I think we will ship to Bangkok
a) heard its cheaper to ship to
b)will be shipping it again over Burma so no need for 2 flights,

Will rent a moto in India and Nepal.

Putting these two posts together, the UAE visa for UK passport holders used to be issued at airport borders rather than "it is not required at all".
Some time back it went from 60 day single entry to 30 days but they are issued freely in any case, on each and every date of arrival.

I hope that it is similar for crossing land borders?

Right... finally got to Dubai after a month in Iran and an expensive ferry ride from Bandar Abbas to Sharjah.

The port paperwork was quite long, just lots of it but quite efficient.. anyways, they stamped the Carnet etc...

I couldn't find any info from customs however about entering Oman and coming back to Dubai. If I need to to ALL the paperwork again I'll just not bloody bother.

Has anyone on a UK plate bike gone from Dubai to Oman and back again from the land borders?

Someone said I might need a "letter of acceptance" from a travel agents, then go to Dubai customs again and get some sort of a permit paper...

any info would be appreciated. I'll also update here how we get on (ifo from travel agents , customs etc)

I gave RTA a ring this morning and they said I needed to go to the Deira licencing centre. I'm gona drop by tomorrow morning... but if its not necessary I'll not bother. Are you sure I don't need any extra documentation from Dubai authorities?

If your bike is UK, and you have a carnet not need to go/call RTA or the licening authority.

Got your message too late and wasted 3 hours of my day. I blame the customs officer at Sharjah for all this, he said I'll need a special permission.... stupid guy. Ah well at least I know where the RTA and the UAE Automobile Club is... if I ever move to Dubai for a bit :P

We're off to Oman tomorrow on the bike, but will be back in 5-10 days. Will be crating the bike up to send to Thailand. I will contact you then and have a meal with you. Do you have any Oman tips?

Hello all;

Just been to Oman and back on my UK plate bike and no problems. Only pointers are:

- The Oman and UAE borders can be a good few km's out, there are bits of Oman you can just sort of ride into and if you were to camp no one would know.

- Get an exit stamp from the UAE side (cost 30 Dirhams) and involves depending on the border a bit of a wait. Al Ain border has a Q-matic, the border near Hatta doesn't but has many more counters open so it's quick.

- Although we got a Carnet stamp in Sharjah at our port entry from Iran no one cared about the bike at the land border. No need for insurance etc on either side (i.e not compulsary, at your own risk)

- Oman visa is 10 day tourist or 30 day tourist, and are priced differently (not much at all) and you can pay by credit card. Oman has very shiny border buildings :)
For this you have to get off the bike and go in to the actual border building fill a short visa application form and queue up.

- Again back in to UAE entry, exit Oman is easy you get the exit stamp without getting off the bike (i.e. any normal border style at the gate)

- UAE entry you need to queue up again and get your new 30 day tourist visa. No problems on multiple entry.

- No issues on the vehicle didn't even ask for any documents etc.

Here is what we did, exited the UAE throgh the Mahdah border, there was one guy there and he waved us happily throgh. No exit stamp etc, then when we got to the Oman border 45 minutes later (they are so apart) they sent us back to the Al Ain UAE border to get an exit stamp otherwise they don't let you in).

Anyway if you just carry on on the main signposted roads and follow the OMAN signs (unlike us) you won't get it wrong :) then you can go enjoy the small roads.

- Ow also at the Oman entry the border wanted to have a look in to all our panniers and had a bit of a poke around, then he got bored of the search and asked whether we were carrying any whiskey, which we replied by laughing at him and said no.

we just did it with our car ...

leaving UAE to Oman you pay 35.- AED p.p. exit fee and 20,- OR Visa fee (30 days) for Oman
CdP gets stamped out and a little look in our car (1h)

leaving Oman back to UAE

no exit fee for Oman, no visa fee for UAE (you get 30 days again) and CdP gets stamped in (1h)

they check of course the VIN number, but no search at all

it's a brise compared to the Bandar Abbas ferry to Sharjah and we travel on german passport and registration

we are planning to do exactly the same and can't wait for an update of yours on that issue! Did you get your bikes from Dubai to Bangkok already? :helpsmilie:

We couldn't find any info about that matter anywhere and would love to know if it is difficult or expensive.. My wife and I are just about to get to Iran and planning our visit of UAE and Oman afterwards.
