Iran -> India by boat

I am planning on doing a trip form EU to india this August and was wondering if Pakistan could be avoided by catching a boat from Iran.

Bandar Abbas - Mumbai seems like the most viable option.

Anyone have information or such experience?

If you mean like a ferry-boat, the simple answer unfortunately is that such routes do not currently exist.

But there has been something going some time, so check out this thread:

No, wasn't thinking about a ferry. More like getting on board some freight ship somehow.

It's not common to do that, like it perhaps was in the past.

And to really know about such options, until you are actually there, that's probably very hard.

Not 100% impossible, but also not likely to happen.

Hey all. I was contemplating the same thing last year at this time. I ended up going through pak to india but before that i sussed a agent from bandar abbas to mumbai <info@secoshipping.com>. We were going througj the process but i ended up driving it. I did use them going from mumbai to bangkok (couldnt get china permits) and they were ok. Not the best shipping experience but not bad, they did everything they said they would do (slight delay with bill of lading)

An option, just consider there offices are in Tehran and they kinda insist to do all paper work with you there.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
