insurance in mexico
i wanted to get some information on motorcycle insurance in mexico.
i traveled from florida to mexico by car a couple of years ago and i had to purchase auto insurance at the border.is it the same for a motorcycle?will i also have to purchase insurance in other south american countries?

Insurance in Mexico is not required,but HIGHLY recommended.I always purchase when close to the border. I can't comment on other countries. Good luck.

Thanks much,Lone Rider. Your info worked even after all these years. 2007-2012 It has come in very handy as I was quoted $762us(6 mos) this morning and after some stalling they came down to $152 (2 mos) Manuna.... HU to the rescue! $91 for 6 mos! ratbikemike

I would check about NOT having insurance. I lived there for a few years, and if you don't have insurance, they will just put it on a flatbed and take it to impound. Unless the rules are changed, get it.
Also you MUST have a permit for the bike, I found out the hard way, had to travel 400 miles back to the border to get one, and I was lucky to get a good Federal Cop.

I didn't get insurance in Guatemala but had to get it in Belize. We were stopped coming out of the border town in Belize to check the insurance papers.
