INFORMATION NEEDED!! Shipping of motorcycle from Singapore to India
 

Hi,

does anyone have any information or contact to any shipping companies which ships motorcycle from Singapore to India? I had send out tons of emails to many different companies but had got reply from none. Is there anyone out there who had done the same? or Vice versa? Please advise.

If I were you, I´d probably send from Malaysia, Port Klang by sea or Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) airport by air, to save the hassle of getting the bike to Singapore. Theres a top-condition motorway between all these, so they are only 4-5 hours apart.

We sent from Chennai to Bangkok (via KLIA) by Malaysia Airlines, the cargo agent in India was Shell Air, but I dont have the contact details right here, I can look them up, though (I should post them to the shipping pages, too). They handled the job fine, but I dont know, if they would be able to help you from the other end, might be worth asking, though. Cost something like 550-600 euros total to fly the bike to Bangkok.

I also met a German biker in Malaysia, who had been asking about shipping from there to India... and I think I wrote down the details, including the agent he was planning to use. I can check, if I still have these (but I havent used them, and neither had the German guy then, so I cant recommend them to you).

Last January, there was some sort of wrestling with the union going on at Chennai port, which meant that cargo moved very slowly thru there. Thats why we opted for air. I dont know, if the situation there is now better.

Some of the quotes I got for seafreight between India and Malaysia were almost as much as flying, but I think you should be able to get it done by sea considerably cheaper than airplane, you just have to find the right contacts.

I had thought of shipping my bike from Malaysia(melaka or KL) or Thailand (Bangkok) to India instead. However, I would still prefer to do it from Singapore as I am currently here. That is if it is possible. Moreover, there are real cheap flights from Singapore to India (Chennai) which cost less than SGD$200. Which is why I think that it would be a better choice for me to send from Singapore. I dont know if you agree with me but this is just my opinion. I had never done a shipping of motorcycle before. As such I am seeking advise and I hope my questions will be addressed.

Or are there any other options? I had send out emails to many different company but had got no reply. I would appreciate if you have any contacts for me.

Ok, if you´re already in Singapore then sure you can send from there... I´ve been to Johor Bahru, but didn´t bother taking the bike to Singapore, because I´ve heard its problematic, even though I had the carnet. Wouldnt have made much sense for me anyway, because I wasnt going to ship it from there.

I will see, if I can still find these contact addresses. Its also a good idea to look up some cargo agents from the Yellow pages, and go visit them personally... I noticed the same thing, they are not very quick to return e-mails.
