Vincent,
Shipping takes a long time and isn't much cheaper than flying the bike, so I would rule that out.
There's plenty of information on the shipping pages from people who have flown Delhi-Bangkok and Kathmandu-Bangkok. It's cheaper from Delhi, but the Nepalese are much easier to deal with (and far friendlier) than the Indians.
We're now in Kathmandu and after three months of battling trucks and buses in India, Nepal is a refreshing change. Far less traffic and the driving's much better. Added to that, you get to see probably the most spectacular scenery in the world.
Personally, I think flying from Kathmandu is the better option, but it does cost a little more.

Hello everybody,

So.... why does no one fly from Dhaka (Bangladesh) to Bankok ? This is my plan.. but.. am I missing anything? Is there a compelling reason not to do this? Will I strugle a thousand strugle's if I try?

Why tell me why....

Maarten

ps. Ofcourse I prefur to hear that it's a briliant idea... and why did we not think of it... but ... is it?

Maarten

Someone has to be the pioneer, the person who blazes the trail for people following. That person could be you! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

Seriously, we have no info, good or bad, on Bangladesh, as very few travellers go there. Which may mean it's an undiscovered paradise, or ... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I found a couple of Bangladesh Tourism site:

http://www.bangladeshonline.com/tourism/

http://www.bol-online.com/meet/aboutban.html

Actually, it doesn't sound too bad! And good news - Thai Airways flies from Dhaka to Bangkok, so I see no reason why it would be a problem, that is the same carrier that most people have used to fly from Kathmandu.

Good luck, and let us know how you go!

Maarten
From here in Kathmandu it is possible to fly to Bangkok via Dhaka with Bangladesh's airline. It's cheaper than flying with Thai Air, but we chose not to because you have to change planes at Dhaka and we were concerned that the bikes might not follow us!
So, the answer to your question is that you can fly Dhaka to Bangkok, but I have no idea what Bangladesh is like or how easy it is to get in. There's only one way to find out...

hello,
does anyone has an idea about transport prices from india to thailand via nepal, concerning the different possibilities ?

thank you

mmaarten 12 Mar 2002 11:51

Well, I guess I'l go and discover that paradise http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif... and of course I'll share it with you.

Vincent, take a look at the planning-section, there is a lot about flying your bike across.

Susan Johnson 13 Mar 2002 00:44

Yes, Vincent, we have several posts in the Shipping page for Delhi to Bangkok, and also for Kathmandu to Bangkok:

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...manduToBangkok

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...DelhiToBangkok

Scroll down the page, as there are at least 3-4 for each, including costs, who they used as agents, procedures, and contact details.

Thai Air is the most frequently used carrier, and seems to be giving good results. Costs are variable.

All - please check the shipping page before inquiring here on the HUBB. There is a lot of info there, and the answer to your question might be found easily.

If the origin-destination pair you want isn't on the Shipping page, then no one else has reported on it yet, so you're probably going to be the pioneer, like Maarten from Bangladesh to Thailand!

Thanks Vincent

We've got a couple of forms to make it easy for you to put information up. Eventually we will have a database for this, but in the meantime if you can use the appropriate form it will help us out.

For Shipping information (sea, air or ferry):

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/for...pinginfo.shtml

For Border Crossing information:

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/form/borderinfo.shtml

The info then ends up in the appropriate section of the site - either Shipping or Border Crossing.

Thanks and cheers!
Susan
