from Argentina, BA... to somewhere?

We don't really plan, and don't plan where to go from South America to 'another continent...'.

Anyone shipping from BA, to 'somewhere'... two months from now? Container sharing would be nice!

An option would be to ship/fly to South Africa and spend time riding up Africa to Europe. You may need a carnet dependent on which coast you ride up.

dstehouwer 11 Mar 2012 14:44

that is one of the options. But we won't mind to go somewhere else first.

So, if anyone wants to share a container; we probably end up where that thing goes -)

We are now in northern Peru and in around a month or two we'll need to ship from South America to Euro/Asia/Africa. For us it's possible to go from BA or from Santiago(Valparaiso), Chile or actually any other port could be ok. We have two bikes and are definetly intested in splitting the costs. Did you already get a quote for the shipment?

Hi there,

We are now investigating Buenos Aires to South Africa.
Flight: about 2200 USD per bike
Crate 4m^2: for the two bikes: about 1500USD
Will be cheaper with more bikes.... please contact me a.s.a.p. about your wishes
We might even do a complete 20-foot container, instead of crating & sharing.
A lot safer....

We would like to ship around 6 weeks from today, as we don't want to miss the best seasons driving north in Africa....

and by the way: we can fit more than 4 bikes in a 20-footer; so if anyone else wants a piece of the pie: feel free to contact me!

We have two bikes, but our bikes are more a bit of road bikes (Yamaha FZ6 and Moto Guzzi Breva 750) so I'm currently researching which route we could take from South Africa toward Europe.

We found that Grimaldi lines has a RORO line from South Africa to Senegal but we still haven't found out the price. This route is a bit easier for us because we need far less visas and the road could be a bit better.

We'll post our info as soon as we find out what to do...

I have a friend who shipped end of Jan Montevideo to Port Elizabeth (cape town).
40ft HQ container cost $1500 (US$)

Another contact has just shipped last week Montevideo to Tilbury (London UK)
same price. well near as damn it !

However. It appears you need to use an agent to process and arrange stuffing etc. Total costs for this is in region of another $1500

agent contact is :

gustavolago 'AT' adinet.com.uy (does not speak english)

Port costs at south africa were : €1180 total for complete container (40ft)

thought this may be of help.

Phil.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your info, seems affordable.

Unfortunately, we booked flights and decided to fly the bikes too. Yes, 2000USD per bike... but you know when they arrive at their destination and I don't want to miss my love for more than a few days ;-).

Container shipments are ideal, IF you can team up with 8 or more bikes. If not, it is not very cheap and a huge hassle for just 2 bikes.

maybe an idea for the HUBB: some platform to share 'shipping intentions in the future', for people to team up? Posting stuff here doesn't seem to work, tried it twice.
