London to Tokyo

I'm planning London, Vladivostok, ferry to Tokyo via South Korea and back.
As this would take some weeks I thought I'd look at the options and contacted James Cargo who are listed under shippers in the left hand menu on the site.
Their reply was very useful and I post it here for information.

Thank you for your enquiry and there are two options for shipping a standard motorcycle back from Tokyo by ocean freight.
  1. Fast Ocean Shipment (7 Weeks): Based on you delivering the bike into our agents depot in Tokyo where they will pack into a motorcycle crate and ship by ocean to arrival at port in the UK where we will clear through customs ready for you to collect from our depot near Heathrow, the price would be £2295.
  2. Vehicle Container shipment (Approximately 12 weeks transit): Based on you delivering the bike into our agents depot in Tokyo where they will pack into a motorcycle crate and ship by ocean to arrival at port in the UK where we will clear through customs ready for you to collect from our depot near Heathrow, the price would be £1495.
These prices includes packing, freight, fuel surcharges, documentation, handling and export/import clearances. Providing your motorcycle originated from the UK, no duties/taxes may be payable on reimport into the UK.

We can also arrange insurance to cover loss or damage of your motorcycle during transit. This is based on 1.5% of the bikes value + freight + 10%.

Please note that airfreight from Japan back to the UK is far higher than these rates.

Heathrow to Tokyo:

Based on you delivering your Victory Vegas Motorcycle into our depot near Heathrow (We can arrange collection if you prefer), where we will pack into a motorcycle crate and ship by ocean up to arrival at Tokyo Port, the price would be £695 (Transit time of approximately 5-6 weeks) or by airfreight for £1245 (Transit time of approximately 7 days).

These prices include packing, freight, fuel surcharges, documentation, handling and export clearance. You will then need to pay any import and local charges on arrival in Tokyo either through your own local agent, or we can certainly recommend you to our local agent.

We can also arrange insurance to cover loss or damage of your motorcycle during transit. This is based on 1.5% of the bikes value + freight + 10%.

I am afraid we have no motorcycle shipping agent in the region of Vladivostok.

I hope this helps with your planning and please do let me know if you would like any further details at this stage.

Kind Regards

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
