Stephan:

I have investigated Freighter Travel in the past (2005) and found that it tends to be more expensive than just shipping yourself and the moto by air.

It does appear to be an interesting way to get around, but it is not the "cheap way to travel" that it might have been 30 years ago. Instead, the industry seems to be switching to more of an upscale, bespoke travel experience for folks who have a lot of time on their hands. I am sure it would be possible to arrange movement of a motorcycle along with yourself on a passenger carrying freighter, but it would have to be something that is individually arranged, thus, it won't be simple nor will it be cheap.

FWIW, my motorcycle has been back and forth across the Atlantic about a half a dozen times, and the most expensive shipment I ever made was by ship - that cost me more than twice what the next most expensive air freight shipment cost me.

Not that expensive

Open the grimaldi home page shown in my above post, then open the freighter cruises page, by my reckoning tilbury-ba return with bike full board less than 3000 euros, would be surprised if you can do it cheaper any other way !!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
