Airfrieght, San Fransisco to E (or S) Africa

Anyone ever airfrieght a bike to East Africa from San Fransisco? Is the cost rediculous? Thanks for your input.

Hi Poa

We have no reports from travellers on this particular route. US scheduled airlines are generally stroppy about shipping bikes (dangerous goods, etc.)

I would start with DAS Air Cargo, which does fly into Africa from the US.

"DAS Air Cargo USA proudly serves over 40 African and Middle Eastern cities, utilizing our DC10 as well as outstanding interline services with other international carriers."

They may not fly from SFO, as their website lists Orlando, Atlanta, Baltimore and Texas offices, although they do have an agent in California.

Their direct toll-free is 800-327-0212. The agent in Los Angeles is:

LAX - Air Cargo Promotion

5757 West Century Blvd, Suite 660, Los Angeles, CA 90045

Robert Gass
PHONE: 310.645.2339
FAX: 310.645.2542

Jim Clark
PHONE: 310.645.2339
FAX: 310.645.2542

Covered Area: California, Oregon, and Washington

Good luck!

Great connection, Thanks Susan. I'll call them first thing in the morning. By the way this web site is amazingly useful. It's saved me time and money (lots) thanks to all the combined travel experience out there. Thank you.

Peter,

Please don't forget to fill in the shipping form once you've done the shipment at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...t/shipping.php

Thanks very much for your kind words.

The warm response which we get from fellow motorcycle travellers all over the world has inspired us to keep the website going.

Please take a moment to check out the Horizons Souk (store), our voluntary membership scheme, where you can buy Horizons Unlimited logo t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, hats and more. Buying a product from the Souk provides visible recognition to you as a Horizons Unlimited supporter, and is something you can wear with pride. A full explanation can be found here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/store/index.php . If you don’t need a t-shirt, we now offer several other ways to contribute. Full details can be found here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/sto...#Contributions .

We appreciate your support to keep the website, bulletin board and e-zine going, as an important service for the benefit of all long distance motorcycle travellers.

See you on the road someday, somewhere...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
