Ferry to Egypt
 

Does anyone know if a ferry actually leaves from Mersin to Port Said?
I have tried e-mailing ilker.sagay@alcorshipping.com and all I have had is a refferal to Www.sisashipping.com and their web site has less information than nothing!
We hope to be there within a week - any information would be greatly appreciated

Mick--the Mersin-Port Said ferry situation has been fluid/ confusing in last few
weeks; SisaShipping has (apparently) run into difficulties w/ Egyptian customs
and/ or local port agents; HUBBers have been updating in different forum/ threads.

If they try and ask you for a further $50 to start the Customs process a day early to ensure you don’t miss the ferry decline their offer of help. We had no issues by sorting it out ourselves on the day of travel
We paid $260 for the 2 of us plus $460 for our Disco (total $720), this was without a cabin as this would have totalled $1200.

I caught the ferry from Port Said to Mersin in June 2012 and it had only just started up again, think from memory it was 5 or. 6 hundred bucks all inclusive with a cabin etc if you still want info sling me an email or message and ill track down the info for you I spent a year riding through you will love it

Iskenderun (T) to Port Said (E)

We (a dutch family with 2 kids) were about to book ticket on the Sisa ferry service (Iskenderun (T) -> Port Said (E)). But then the recent riots (26 jan 2013: 22 people killed) started in Port Said. So we wait and keep an eye on the situation.

Is someone of you in Port Said now (or about to leave?) who can give more information / details about the recent situation? You can send me a PM.

Additional Info
-The vessel departs from Iskenderun to Port Said on wednesdays and saturdays, however, there may be some delays due to the weather conditions and vessel-related issues. You should check departing time one day before by contacting our agent in Iskenderun.
- To be present in the port one day before is required for formalities, you dont have to spend the nigth in port.
- 3 meals a day are included. Tea, coffee is served, as well. You may not find snacks, it is better if you bring some with you.
- Your car may have to wait in Egypt one day. Our agent deals with all the issues, you dont need another fixer. [ROBERT: I'll check which agent this is as KADRAR doesn't score high points]

Rates are (jan 2013):
1 pullman seat : 170 USD
1 person in 2-bed cabin :320 USD
1 person in 4-bed cabin :270 USD
1 bed in dormitory :220 USD
Passenger car: 490 USD

An additional 10 USD per person is applied as service charge. Age between 0-4 is free of charge and in the age range between 5-12, 50% discount is applied.

We are still not sure to take the ferry or try Libya ...:innocent:

the Visa for Libya will be about $ 1000.- ($400.- agency fee + euro 60.- visa fee) for the 2 of us plus travel costs for about 1500km (max.4-5days)

the ferry according to you is $850 plus travel costs through Turkey (expensive gas/diesel)

What about the mentioned agent who takes care of the issues entering Egypt?
Do you have any further informations?

We would like to leave end of April either directly Tunisia/Libya or slowly via Greece/Turkey ...
