ferry from egypt to eritrea or djibouti

Hi,
I am going to star my trip through Africa in a few days. I wasn't able to get Sudane visa in italy...I'll try in Lybia and egypt...but...anyway i'm looking for an alternativ route on my way to Cape Town. I know ther is a ferry from suez to Jaddah (Saudi Arabia) and from there to Eritrea. does anyone know more about it? does it take bike? where can I get a transit visa for Saudi?
thanks,

Nicholas

So far as we know, there are no transit visas available for Saudi Arabia, unless things have changed recently.

See following post on ferries: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000174.html

Also, see following post on Saudi transit visa:

I suggest a search on phrases such as 'Saudi visa' or 'ferry egypt eritrea' or ferry egypt djibouti' will pull up quite a few posts. Go to the top of a Forum index page and 'Match All terms' in Index: HU Bulletin Board.

Please let us know how you go for future travellers.
