Fees by arriving in OZ

Hi,
can anybody tell me something about the costs and fees coming up when the bike has arrived in Australia, like harbor fees and so on.
Thanks for your appreciated feedback.

Sorry no definitive answer, it will vary according to the port your bike arrives at.

Quarantine inspection - about $120 to $180
Cleaning fees if required - about $100 to $200
Customs stamping carnet about $50 to $100

Port fees - as % of whatever the shipping line pays for each unit unloaded.
Stevedores fees - unloading ship $?
Transport off wharf will vary, best to use a wharf based container unpacking service.

Hi Robert,

after 8 month in Australia we just updated our blog with all the details for Australia. Maybe this can help you a bit: FAZIT Australien - boomer.de bike-travel It`s in german but that shouldn`t be a problem for you
We didn`t have to pay any fees at the customs for the carnet.

When and where starts your Ozzie-Adventure? We`re in New Zealand since one week - still waiting for our bikes to arrive here in Auckland too.

All the best for your trip. And if you have any further questions, please don`t hesitate to contact us.

Cheers,
Kati & Jens

Hi Kati, hi Jens,
sure it´s no problem to understand german.

Robert

Hey, got a message that with such old bikes we have 1982 and 1973 it would be cheaper to pay the import tax and claim it back again when you leave the country then paying a carnet which is 160€ per bike (and unknown handling fee). Anybody more with experiences like that?

As a tourist you can only bring a vehicle into Aus using a carnet - has been since about 2009/08. Do a weblookup on "VSB10" which gives you the details.
