Easiest place to ship in South America
 

Looking for the easiest place to ship a bike from Cape Town to South America, preferrably in the northern parts (Caracas?). I've been told to avoid Rio, it is basically impossible.

Follow the link to Ted Simon's website for detailed instructions in how to clear a bike through Brazil customs in 2-3 days.

If you think that's a long time, you should consider entering via Argentina or even Venezuela instead.

We flew from Cape Town to Buenos Aires with our bike at the end of 1997 and cleared customs in just a few hours. Our experience was fairly typical. Sea shipping is a whole other story. See the following page on the site for the Air or Sea? question.
