Dar Es Salaam to UK ship or air?

Does anybody have any information on shipping or flying a motorcycle back to the UK from Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, Africa?

Nothing specific - and I assume you have checked out the shipping page under trip planning.

BUT highly recommend air not sea, especially out of a place like Dar. By sea is too slow and too risky - it might not make it. Air for sure. Read the shipping page for tips and reasons.

If you do go by boat, you might try these links, which are UK car shippers but may take motorcycles:

"Karman Shipping Limited are Car Shipping and Forwarding Agents specialising in the shipment of Motor Vehicles from the UK and European Continent to Worldwide destinations. Although originally established in 1984, we are still essentially a family concern and, as such, are able to provide a truly personal and at all times a most efficient car shipping service.

We have at our disposal regular direct sailings from Felixstowe through to Mombasa, Dar-Es-Salaam and Tanga every 7/10 days taking 20–24 days."

"Drive on Drive off (Ro-Ro) Destinations direct from UK Ports: East Africa - MOMBASSA DAR ES SALAAM BEIRA DJIBOUTI/MAPUTO

If by air (recommended), most reliable would be BA Cargo. Here's a site with links to Airfreight agents, or you can just go to the BA Cargo office at the airport cargo section.

Please let us know how you make out.

whoops!
Thankyou for your reply Susan, I have already tried the shipping companies, they only export from UK, not import. The last website looks promising though, I will pursue it further. The information is actually for my boyfriend who is on his way to Dar Es Salaam and wants to ship his bike home from there in a few weeks time, I wanted to save him some time as he only has a few days to organise it before he flies home (finally).

Question Current info?

Hi, A friend and myself are hopefully going from Tanzania to Cape town next May, which will be our first trip!

I'm just looking into freighting our bikes from London and back probably from Cape Town. Does anyone have any current infomation or ideas for this trip or is the above still sound pretty right?

I'd really appreciate any help at all.

Cheers Greg.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
