The cheapest way to get from Russia to America

I'm thinking of going from either Vladivostok or Magadan to either Seattle or Anchorage. The ideal route would be Vladivostok to Seattle, but I'm unsure of the costs of getting a bike across. What is the cheapest way to do this? Is there a ferry? I know there is the option of flying the bike across or getting a container, but isn't this expensive? I am travelling alone, so a container would be far too big for what I need but if it's the cheapest option, it's the best.

Whatever works out cheapest is what I'll be doing!

Any help, guys?

:confused1: You ask if there is a ferry across the Pacific Ocean? No there isn't.

It would be good for you to browse the "Shipping the Bike" link in the left hand margin of this page. Also search the whole site including the hubb by typing

site:horizonsunlimited.com word1 word 2 word3

into Google, where w1/w2/w3 etc are the criteria you are searching on.

There are two commonly used options - direct from Vladivostok or via Korea. A few weeks ago I was told the freight out of Korea was quite a bit cheaper, but to do this you first need to get your bike there - which because the ferry between the two countries is exceedingly expensive adds $1200-$1500 to the cost.

The two commonly used shipping agents - who would be able to give you current prices because i know both are arranging shipments at this moment are:

Wendy Choi - Korea
Yuri at Links Ltd - Vladivostok

Search the HUBB and you'll find their contact details. Both are exceedingly nice and easy to deal with.

Good luck

Thank you very much. I wasn't sure about the ferry but a friend I met in Australia mentioned one, though it was in broken English so I wasn't sure if that was true or not.

I'll look around for their details!

Ferry web site

The ferry company web site is at www.dbsferry.com - but its in Russian and korean only. There is a separate (and up to date) thread on this ferry link in the North Asia section. Also be aware that you should ignore any references you see to the Dong Chun ferry - that one stopped running 1-2 years ago.

Good luck

work out your date of shipping and then try to find sombody to share a container from vlad to seattle . its about half the cost of taking the ferry to korea and then flying the bike to seattle

here's Yuri's details in Vladivostok

As far as i am aware there are no flights for the bike out of Magadan or Vladivostok, the nearest place to fly would be Korea. If you do use the ferry to Korea make sure you book well in advance, it is a very small ferry with limited places !!

If you do get in touch with Yuri just say that Mark and Martin say hi and thanks for all the help while we were there.
