Canada to Europe?

I want to ship my bike (2003 Shadow ACE 500 pounds dry) from Edmonton?calgary?possibly Vancouver to Anywhere in western Europe. I am in no real rush and am planning on leaving it in Europe over 2 summers to allow an extensive tour for 2 summers. Im most concerned with price and do not really care wether air or freight (whichever is cheaper, with a reasonable time frame)
Thanks Steve

Motorcycle Express (link somewhere on left I think?) ships by air to several major cities in Europe from Canada(Toronto, also think Vancouver) for about $1100. That was a price I got for my GS Adv. Don't know what by boat would cost, but from New York NY had it quoted at about $600, and with all the fees added up to about $900. Hopes this helps you any.

Try these folks in Vancouver:

www.animaltravel.com

They shipped my Transalp by air from Vancouver to Paris in April 2005. No crate required. See my report under the "Shipments by Travellers".

I would highly recommend them. Motorcycle Express was much more expensive when I contacted them and they didn't ship to Europe in the early spring for some reason.

I'm using animal travel this April. Like Dave said, they seem to be the ticket around here.

Air Canada Cargo shipped our two bikes (an F650 and an R100GS) from Calgary to Frankfurt for about $2100 in 2002. Totally hassle free at both ends. Just make sure the bike is on reserve and disconnect the battery. We had to use a Dangerous Goods Specialist to fill out the form for us and he confirmed that the fuel and battery were OK. Bikes flew on Saturday and after we picked up our insurance from ADAC in Frankfurt we rode out on Monday afternoon.

I've used Motorcycle Express about 5 times now to ship my Honda ST1100 back and forth between Canada and Europe - I am very happy with the service they offer.

They use charter carriers, not sched carriers. You have the biggest choice of dates shipping out of Montreal or Toronto. They are a good company, trustworthy and competent.

You could also ask for a quote from this guy (germany-based):

Bernhard Walter

B. Walter is very professional and reliable and the prices are fair. I went Frankfurt-Santiago Santiago-Cancun Cancun-Frankfurt with them, but their main business is North America.

Good luck

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
