Shipping from Kenya to Cameroon

After looking at all the options to get from East to West Africa, I think we're going to have to ship our bike (1 only- a BMW 650 Dakar) across. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about this, what companies are best, roughly how much it will cost, and if shipping will even be the cheapest option? We want to end up in Cameroon, so we're thinking Nairobi to Yaounde. Any info is appreciated!

Thanks heaps, Gwen and Nick

Heading west from Kenya, on the ground, your best bet would be to head south and then west through Zambia and then north through Angola. Southern Sudan and much of the Congo are "no go" areas. More than 4,000,000 people are said to have been killed in the Congo's ongoing civil war. Sad that the major news outlets rarely say anything about that. As for flying the bike west, Ethiopian Airlines has cargo aircraft going from Addis Ababa to Lagos, Nigeria. This puts you in the ball park. Ethiopian is a very highly rated airline. Ethiopian Airlines - Home just click on the cargo link. I'm not sure if they transport motorcycles, but it's worth a try (I just read on their site that "big or small, we ship it all." Good luck with your trip, H.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
