Bike Shipment UK to Spain

Three of us are planning a trip riding down through France and Spain then crossing to Morrocco and spending two weeks in Morrocco. The France/Spain side of things is planned to take a week, both there and back. Unfortunately I cant do three weeks, so want to get my bike shipped to Southern Spain so I can then fly out and pick it up. Does anyone know of companies that can do this - cheaply!!! I have spoken to a few standard haulage companies and they are talking of £500 one way!!! Help please! Thanks

Adam

When? Best bet would be to get someone to ride it down there with the others in your party, and pay their air fare back.

Regards, Mick

Adam,

i've researching getting bike to Morocco & back quick to watch the Dakar but not so easy. The best i could i find is to travel with bike by:
Via train from Brussels or Paris to Marsielle or ferry from Portsmouth-Bilboa then ride to Marsielle, and then;
Ferry companies Comanav & Comarit have ferries 4 times per week between Tanger & Sete (200km west of Marsielle) for 70-160euro pp & 49 for bike in low season (till March). Leaves 8pm in Tanger or 7pm in Sete & takes 36hrs. So if you lined them up you could cover some good distances while sleeping!

Nador-Sete & Tanger-Port routes operate only in summer.
Also SNCF website indicates a train that runs daily from Paris in the evening to arrive in Madrid in the morning (& vice versa) but not sure if they have Autocar.

This is still loads of mucking around so i think i'll just fly to Almeria & buy a bike as all i want to do is watch some racing!

Attempting to buy a bike in Spain is probably even more mucking around.

I can agree with that last statement, buying a bike in Spain. I just did it and had to go through all the hoops, register myself in Spain, which took two weeks(figuring it all out) and the transfer(hours in cues). If you decide to do this in Spain (as a foreigner) I can tell you how to make your life muuuch easier. If you do it exactly right the first time, you should be able to get it done in 3or4 days, with and adress in Spain.

Hi John (old beemer), i just e-mailed you direct.
I'm booked to fly into Seville tomorrow evening (Thu 22nd) and intend to find a bike on Friday, so i guess my next post on this topic will be educational or at least funny for other HUBB readers!
And to think that I used to sell motorcycles for a job in Australia. Half prepared and full steam ahead...
