Bangkok to Kathmandu May 2011

Hi there,

I would like to airfreight my bike from Bangkok to Kathmandu beginning of May 2011.
Is there someone else planning the same thing? Would be great to share some costs.

Maybe someone coming the other way, I would take over the crate.

Cheers,
Frank

ktm to bkk ?!?

Hi Franconian,

I'm now in india, I'm travelling by overland from France for last 9 month. I plan to reach Nepal in may (before the 9th) but not sure about what's next. Airfreight my bike to thailande was my first idea but... it's a big budget and I'm thinking about different options (sell the bike...;(

Anyway i'll be happy to meet you and share experiences in Nepal in May.

If I finally decide to do this shipping by plane, I'll be interested in buying your box for the bike ;)

Best regards, take care and enjoy your trip

see you

Mat

hi Mat, Franco, keen to find out ur experience. I am in Vietnam now, plan to buy a motorbike in Cambodja and travel to Holland, so the other way.

Did you check out the possiblility to travel via China?

Hi Mat & Remco,

I am in Bangkok now and try to ship to Kathmandu in about 2 weeks. I found a great steel crate and am happy to pass it over to another overlander in Kathmandu for a few beers beer

The airfreight from Kathmandu to Bangkok seems to be much more cheaper. I have met some guys who only paid around 400€. I have to pay twice as much from Bangkok...

@Remco:
China is possible, but you need a very big wallet...

Hi Franco !
that's a good news you found a great crate !! let's have a bierin Katmandu to celebrate. I'll be there around 8th of may.

I'm now in madhya Pradesh and it's very very hot here. I hope weather in nepalese mountains is cooler !!

I hope you'll find a cheap and safe way to ship your bike in Nepal ...

Cheers

Hi Remco,

Cambodia to holland... nice trip !! I've heart that China is very expensive because you have to pay (big money) for a "guide" travelling with you.

What about Carnet de passage for your bike ?! can you get one in cambodia ? you need it at least for India, Pakistan and Iran.

Hi Franconian,
i got your private message... i'll be in ktm in two days.
why not meet at the airport when you arrive. i'll check your crate size and we'll see if it's fit.
can you send me your email adress ? tell me what time you arrive. i'll pick you up if you want
see you
Mat

Hi Frank and Mat,
Good luck on your respective travels. We are going from Cape Town, and will look at shipping/flying from Katmandu to Bangkok and are interested in following the rest of your travels through any of those countries between Turkey and Bangkok. Also, keen to hear if you get hold of good shipping agents, and costs of your air flights and bike shipping, and how the whole experience goes.

Go well guys,
Chiromal
