Chile is a good bet because:

1.It is a wealthy country, so they are more usued to dealing with us lot from the rich world, and
2. the administration is quick and efficient, relatively speaking.
3. There is no import duty - so, although you wouldn't be liable anyway, there is not this layer of officialdom to go through.
4. Someone I know who came into a Chilean port with a bike, found it very simple.
5. It was under 100USD for the admin, port fees etc.
6. From Chile you can go south or north, depending on season and inclination.

Maybe it is fine elsewhere too, but this info may help you judge your options. Hope so.

Simon

Thanks guys,
Chile probably is where ill start from but from the shipping list here i can only see one group called BTI that operates from Australia. Just wondering if anyone has used any other group from Oz.

Shipping to Chile

Hi Luke,

I am shipping two KLR650's from Melbourne to Chile, arriving late Feb. Shiping takes up to 60 days. I have had quotes from a number of companies and the best I have found is $800 from Melb to the docks in CHile.

Chile port charges and anything else we get stung with at the destination end will be additional to this. I have had a quote to B.A, which is $100 cheaper than Chile, but everything I have read has told me to steer clear of shipping into Argentina. Apparently customs is expensive and a hassle.

If you'd like specific details of the company I am using, email me at ison.nick@gmail.com

Shipping Your Bike

Hay lad, a mate and I are going to USA in a couple of weeks. We are flying our bikes over to LA and riding south, from Brisbane. All up QANTAS is hitting us for just under $1600 ozzie, so that is not too bad and the bikes are there, in just five days or less they say. So maybe think of flying your beloved possession.

We are think of shipping back so if anyone can recomend a shipper from Rio, Brazil that would be great.

bike shipping

Hi Luke,

I flew my bike to Malaysia with C.T. freight in Mascot Sydney,
tel: 02 8337 8888, last year for about 800AUS$ , It was there in about 3 days and pretty hassle free.
Give them a shout as you'll most likely pay the same as shipping by sea,
be careful bringing the bike back to Oz , Customs screwed me saying it needed to be fumigated and washed, they charged me 400$ for this and they did neither.
Have a great trip
Ride on
Kev
