Anywhere Good In South America To Sell A Bike?

This Winter (Oct-Nov) I am planning on doing a ride to South America From Seattle And Because Of time restraints i was planning on selling the bike (klr650) down there and flying home..... I Have been sifting thru some posts and found that some countries tax those sorts of transactions heavily making the sale difficult. Are there any countries in South America where this can be avoided?

yep

Yes you can avoid such taxes.
I bought my bike from another traveler in uruguay since they don´t charge you any kind of tax for a buy/sell transacction. I´ve heard that Paraguay offers the very same oportunity, but my experience was actually very good in Uruguay, don´t know if paraguay offers the same nice experience.

Hope it helped

Selling in Paraguay?

I hope Paraguay is friendly to bikers, Argentina and Brazil definately are not. I am heading to Paraguay (from Rio, Brazil) this week, in order to sell my bike. I have two bikes to sell, so will have to make a return trip for the other bike. It is illegal (with very few exceptions) to import used bikes into Brazil and Argentina - which is why you can´t sell here. I´ve hear - but don´t know for sure yet!, that Boliva and Paraguay don´t have these problems.
I´d like to know more about the best way to go about this, or maybe a spannish speaking friend in Paraguay who could help me through this process...:helpsmilie:

Hi

I'm from Chile and last year I bought here a bike from a guy who travel from L.A. to here. Here in Chile you can't make legal a bike if you imported it used, but the buyer can make some legal arrangements with lawyers to make it legal. I'm doing that right now, is not easy, but is possible.

the thing is that you CAN sell a bike here in chile, but the buyer can't use it on the street. You can left the country by airplane without your bike, I know that because I left the guy in the airport... no problems at all.

If you sell your bike here at a good price, you will sell it, I can help you on that, and if the price is good enought for me may be I'll buy it too!!!

I hope this can help you and sorry for my crapy english:oops2:
