Anyone looking to fly Kathmandu-Bangkok mid-March?

Hello everyone
We wondered if there was anyone out there looking to fly their bikes from Kathmandu mid-March time. We are due to cross into Nepal early March (before the 4th) and will be looking to arrange things soon after that. We are on 2 BMWs and are looking to share some of the costs - eg. airway bill, dangerous goods charges, admin charges etc. (all charged per shipment not per bike), as well as getting the lower rate offered once you reach 500 kilos.
Anyone interested - email us from our site www.chasingthesun.org
Cheers
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Me and Graham are going to fly sometime near the end of March. We are teamed up for a double crate so can't help there but we will let you know about the best deals. Several people I have travelled with have just gone through so I am sitting on a lot of information atm.

Ride safe,
Ol

I don´t think they´ll be shipping in this year´s March...

BTW, just out of curiosity, do Thai still fly bikes between Nepal and Thailand?

See, we flew our DL650 from Chennai to Bangkok about a year ago, and the shipping company clearly told us, that you´ll have to choose between Malaysian and Sri Lankan Airways, because Thai will not accept the bike as cargo. Could be also because they have a different type of plane flying that route, etc... or I wouldnt know, if the shipping company just didn´t want to deal with them.

ahhh ok, could explain the blank website! :oops2: You never know they could have got a little lost on the way!

I will let you know about cargo planes. Wont be in Kathmandu for a few weeks yet. How long did it take you to sort out the shipping stuff once you found an agent?

Ride safe,
Ol

From the day when we first time took our papers to the shipping agent, to the day, when the bike flew, was about 7-8 days. But there was the new year in between, and if I remember correct, all offices were closed one day mid-week. Count that out, and I think if they´d had a more suitable timetable for flights, it could´ve been reduced to 4-5 days. The ´cooldown-period´ alone (after the crate has been left at the airport warehouse, and before they´re allowed to load it into an airplane) is 24 hrs.

And definitely a lot of paperwork & trying to find the right offices in India, but from what I´ve heard, could be a bit easier in Nepal. Was pretty easy to handle everything in Bangkok airport, though, but luckily we had a thai-speaking person with us, that did help!
