Alaska to Vladivostok!
 

I'm in the planning stage for next year's trip to the USA,Canada,Alaska, then on to Vladivostok,through Russia via Moskow,then on into Poland.
Can anyone advise regarding getting the bike(Gold Wing)from Alaska to Vladivostok?
I'm a bit of a "veteran" as far as motorcycle touring is concerned(40 years!)but have never been to Alaska,although,I have toured Russia twice,but not east of Moscow.
I have Gold Wing contacts in the States,but,none that can answer this question,so I'm hoping that someone here can.

Ted, getting directly to Vladivostok from most anywhere seems to be a problem and thus a lot of travelers ship to Japan first and take the ferry from there to Vlad. However, it can be done. I arranged shipping from Seattle to Vlad last summer (2005) through STS North America. STS is, I believe, a Russian based company with offices around the world, and I used their office in Bellevue, Washington to arrange shipping and was very satisfied.

I don't know if they could arrange shipping from Alaska, but it would certainly be worth an email to them. I worked with someone in their office named Pille Mandla and her email is pillem@stslogistics.net. As far as I know the Belleuvue office does not have a website, but their main office in Russia does - try a google search. They also have a branch office in Vladivostok.

Mike,thank you for the reply. It seems that you are right,no way to get from Alaska to Vlad,other than double back to Bellingham and ship from there,but,that would add another 4 weeks(I've been told to allow 6!),plus a rather large,additional,wedge of money(my wallet throbs,uncontrolably, at the very mention of this trip!)
So,to Plan B,which is,and its something that I've often thought about.As I'm going to be in the USA for about 3 months, I may just do a tour to every State Capitol in the lower 48,plus Washington DC. Has this been done by anyone before by motorcycle,especially, a Brit on a motorcycle? Maybe you,or someone else around here,knows the answer.
