Airfreight: Lima to Panama

I am looking into airfreighting my bike from Lima to Panama. Has anyone done this? If so I need the usual info:

1) Which airline used
2) Price
3) Lowdown on how things went

I expect to be in Lima at the end of November.

Well, I tried but it just wasn't going to happen. The main problem is that the only airlineswith direct flights (COPA, TAME) use planes with cargo doors which are too small to take my bike. The maximum size cargo they take is 80cm high x 110cm width and, depending on who you talk to, 180 or 200cm length. Taking out the front wheel on my NTV would have got it's length to a whisker under 200cm so with a pallet or crate it's length may have exceeded the maximum length. The cheapest airline which could take it was LanChile. However they go via either Miami or Santiago and were asking about $800. Other quotes were $1400 from Arrow Air and over $2000 from Chioce Cargo. I am now in Guayaquil sorting out shipping as I encountered the same size problem with airlines/airfreight companies here.

hi stephen,
don't have any precise info on ecuador-panama connections. 'girag' (sorry no contact names or numbers available!!!) fly all sizes of bikes south from panama to quito (via bogota) for $500 per bike. their planes must obviously return north again... so why shouldn't they take your bike???

see 'the panama-ecuador connection' info that i posted on this site a couple of days ago.

guayaquil docks is an absolute pain in the butt to ship into. i would imagine it is not much better to ship out of...

sorry i can't give you more info.

all the best. let me know how you get on.
ride safe,

ps. do you have any info on airfreight- south america to europe?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
