Airfreight LA to Quito (or anywhere else in Ecuador or Peru)

Has anyone got any info on agents in LA that I can contact?
We were thinking of shipping by sea but it seems getting the bike out in any South American port is costly due to the corrupt officials there...not sure if the airports will be any better...?

Airports always have less corruption etc. Think of the hundreds/thousands of years the ports have had to perfect corruption! Airports HAVE TO work quickly and efficiently, and thus have less hassle. Not to say there won't be some problems, even if it's not corrupt, there will always be some and it will always vary.

As a general rule, airports are better - less hassle, less corrupt, and much cheaper to get stuff out.

Agents - have you had a look at the Shipping Database to see what others experience has been? Link in the main menu left, under planning.

airfreight all the way!

We've since come that same conclusion...ports are to be avoided!:funmeterno:
I have checked out the shipping database, brimful of shipments out of Panama and only one from LA - we contacted the agents mentioned and they reiterated what Martin Pepper said in his shipping report on the HUBB -nightmares on the other end. They (Able Cargo) also only do full sized containers and couldn't (wouldn't?? - in the nicest way possible) really help. We're debating going back to plan A, to Panama via Mexico, just better go like hell through that border region!

Ports and Customs are not the one corrupted, the bunker charges by ports are getting expensive day by day.

L.A. to Ecuador or Peru shouldn't be any problem by sea. However air shipping always is fast and expedited.

Thank you for your replies. We didnt have much luck with this plan, and have decided to do it the old fashioned way, and ride! Should be across into Mexico in 2 days. Wish us luck :thumbup1:
