Air Freight from Buenos Aires
 

I need to ship my bike from BA to London. Can anyone recommend a good air freight company?

Two years ago I flew my bike from Buenos Aires to Germany with Lufthansa Cargo. The process was very easy (no box involved) and not outrageously expensive (1000 Euros, the same it cost me to get the bike to Argentina by sea freight).

Shipping Seattle to Buenos Aires
 

Three of us plan to ship our bikes to Buenos Aires then spend one month riding to Colombia, return home for Xmas and then return in 2012 to ride through Central America and Mexico. We have storage in Columbia.

We need help understanding shipping options. Leaning toward air freight, but open to ideas. If you have shipped and can share information, we would appreciate it. We plan to ship in October.

In addition, we are looking for one additional rider to join us. The three of us are in our sixties, retired and ride BMW F800, 1200GS and a 1200GSA. We have all ridden extensively in US and Mexico. One of us speaks Spanish fluently and one of us can get by. If you are interested, let us know.

We have similar plans to ship our KTM990 to Ba.A.
It looks like we're about the same demographic and work status.
We've been down to SA three times and have marginal language skills.
Let's keep in touch with the shipping info we come up.
Have you thought about sharing a container?
I've shipped back, from down there, to Seattle by ship/ground with good
results.

I also shipped my bike from Buenos Aires to Heathrow with Lufthansa Cargo two months ago.

Very easy, smooth procedure, helpful staff at the Lufthansa office and in the Cargo area itself.

No container needed, just turn up with a tank which is less than a quarter full, and you can also put all your luggage onto the pallet.

Delivered the bike to the airport on Friday and picked it up on Tuesday at James Cargo in exactly the same condition as I had left it.

The prices are partially based on weight, so the following rates are for 165kg of bike + 25kg of luggage + 70kg for the pallet provided by the shipper = 260kg.

London-Heathrow to Buenos Aires-Ezeiza

Freight (via James Cargo): £ 1,395.00
Insurance: £56.10 (voluntary)

Airway bill (United Airlines): AR$ 440.00
Various charges at Ezeiza (including four days storage) AR$ 1,156.64

Buenos Aires-Ezeiza - London Heathrow

Total paid to Lufthansa Cargo: US$ 1,411.00

Broken down charges:

Freight: US$ 1,045.00 (based on standard rate for 500kg - not reducible; if your bike weighs more this rate will increase)
Miscellaneous charges: US$ 10.00
Security charge: US$ 0.20 x actual weight of 260kg = US$ 52.00
Fuel Surcharge: US$ 0.85 x actual weight of 260kg = US$ 221.00
AWB Fee: US$ 3.00
Dangerous Goods Fee: US$ 80.00

Miscellaneous charges at Ezeiza cargo terminal (including packaging): AR$ 611.39 (= US$ 153.00)

Fees charged at James Cargo for airline handling, collection, documentation and R H & D: £ 250.00.
