pls visit http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...t/shipping.php

when you're in stgo, go to the cargo terminal at the airport. i can pretty much guarantee the US carriers won't take your bike because already in early 2001 they didn't like 'dangerous goods'. post september 2001, a definite.

putting it in a box and sending it by sea is likely to be your only option. or trying to sell it in chile/argentina.

good luck

Hi Tom

I would try LanChile Cargo for starters. Local address details are on their website:

www.lancargo.com

Next I would try Hellmann Worldwide, who do both air and sea freight and have offices in Santiago (as well as a number of other South American cities).

http://www.hellmann.net/english/index.shtml

Santiago contact details are:

Santiago - Chile
Hellmann Worldwide Logistics ( Chile ) Ltda.
Airport Branch Office
Edificio Centro Aéreo, Of. 306 Aeropuerto C.A.M.B
Telephone: (56 2) 690-5050
Fax: (56 2) 690-5054

Cesar Inostroza
Air Freight Operation
cesar.inostroza@hplgroup.com

Mario Polloni
Air Freight Operation
mario.polloni@hplgroup.com

I would try Panalpina, who also do both air and sea freight and have offices worldwide.

http://www.panalpina.com/

Panalpina Chile Transportes Mundiales Ltda. Airport Office
Terminal de Carga C.A.M.B.
Edificio Centro Aéreo Pudahuel
Oficina 303
Santiago
Chile
+56 2 6773333 tel
+56 2 6773301 fax

Both Hellmann and Panalpina have been recommended by travellers, but shipping out of South America requires due care and attention. At least with an international company, you can yell at them in the destination country if there's a problem, and they can't easily point fingers at the destination agent since it's also them!

Air freight should be less problematic than sea freight, and the cargo companies are used to vehicles so you won't encounter the hassles that you would if you try to go through a passenger carrier.

Good luck, and let us know how you make out.
