wrong number on the carnet - Horizons Unlimited

Ok so my carnet arrives the other day and i check to make sure it tallies with the V5...hurrah no problem.

Then ive got my head under the bonnet and notice the engine number is one digit out...oh no i think what should i do as we leave in 6 weeks....what do you reckon??? is this gonna cause problems, do the border police really look that hard?? The two numbers are

054321 and it should read 0154321

Youve got to be a bit tough to pull someone up for this!!!
So any comment would be appreciated

hi,

six weeks should be plenty of time to change it over the AA.

phone the person in charge and send it today, by registered mail, you should have a new one in maybe a week.

I dont know where you want to go, but it is best to have this details right, if you can.

on your journey try to get the paperwork right, I mean try not to overstay your visa, get your carnet stamped in and out, if a cop wants to see a drivers licence, show him something, that looks at least as a licence :-) and always be relaxed

Hiya,

I would get it changed....

Only a few borders looked at the chassis numbers on our bikes, but I would have been sweating it if I knew the numbers were out!

Funny though, they usually read the numbers out while you check them off on the carnet... that was our experience when they were checked anyway.

The borders that they were checked were:
Pak / India
Indonesia / East Timor
Arrival in Darwin

absolutely no question ... change it unless you want border hassle everywhere you go - its such a big lever for a customs official to get a big bribe or, even worse, turn you away

Change it my friend- you really do not want the hassle and/or risk fines/haggles/delays or worse still, confiscation etc
An 'away day' ticket or courrier will resolve this.
That's my tuppence worth!

trans africa, my chasis number or engine number was never checked. The car was thoroughly searched for guns or I don't know what other equipements mercenaries with a huge ski box on the roof would carry.

Still, I wouldn't risk it with wrong numbers in the carnet. It's exiting enough with the correct numbers, and really wouldn't be caught with an 'illagally' imported car on the Congo Brazaville border...
