buying bikes in Cape Town

...anyone out there have any good contacts, connections, bike shops, websites they can pass along for buying bikes (probably XLR 250s, XT 350s) in Cape Town?

Cheers,
T&T

Hi
Go ask the people over at Wilddog, it's the local SA dual sport forum, you will definitely get good advice there

Cape Town seems to be one of the hardest places to find the bikes you mentioned. I cant understand it because just about anywhere else in South Africa the XT350 is as common as crime! The police use them and so do farmers. This means many are going cheap secondhand.

However as you specify Cape Town I would suggest checking out Auto Trader SA - New Cars, Used Cars for sale online, Car Finance, Car Insurance & Car Prices although I think actually buying the weekly mag in a store is better as the website seems to be slowly updated. Another massive local classifieds is the CapeAds, a newspaper that comes out weekly or so, they also have a website I think so try google it.

Other than that places close to Cape Town that have better bike shops suited to those bikes like Stellenbosch area, George and most towns up the Garden Route. Somewhat further away Kwa-Zulu natal has the best bike shops for trail bikes in SA, mostly the Durban/Pietermaritzburg area.

Hope this helps

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
