Which African countries require a carnet?

We are a group of four currently preparing to travel around the coast of Africa, we will be heading down the west side via Morrocco/sierra leone and returning up on the east side through mozambique all the way to Egypt.

Because of the number of countries in which we hope to pass through and the restriction on only being allocated 25 pages for a carnet I would appreciate any help and information my fellow Hubber's could provide in compiling a definitive list of the countries which definately require a carnet.

Having read numerous posts from what I gather some countries recognise a laissez-faire payable at the border as opposed to the carnet.

All help and suggestions would be much appreciated

Africa Carnet

I drove around Africa 2001.

South Africa, Botswana and Namibia share a common customs so you'll only lose a page (that's if you can't persuade them to give you a TIP - temp import permit)

Zambia is a TIP.

Morocco is a TIP.

Carnets can be bought in South Africa as well. If you run out of pages they might be able to help you out.

I've forgot about the rest of the countries we drove through, but if you run out of pages then send it home and have a new one sent out. That is possible.
