What should I put on my carnet?

Just about to get my carnet. Do I need to put the panniers on the carnet? We have autocoms? If I get a GPS, will this need to be put on the carnet? Can it be added later, as I haven't decided whether to take one with us?

Many thanks

Andrew and Wendy

Hi Andrew & Wendy,

There is only provision on the carnet document for "extras" such as a radio & spare tyres - issuing clubs do not usually have space to add other items such as comms equipment, panniers & GPS.

For more guidance, contact your state club RACQ who will issue your carnet.

Hi,

Put as little on it as possible.
The more info, the more hassle.
Supose you put your gps on it... and it gets stolen? Try to explain the to the friendly customs-oficer.

Normally they are ONLY interested in engine and chasis number. Notting more.

Don't even think to list the GPS in the carnet! The custom officer never check for it and - additionaly - in some countries it's forbidden.
So the less you show it, the better it is

Extra tyres not in carnet

Hi,

We are in Turkey at the moment heading towards India via Iran and Pakistan.
In Istanbul we bought a set of extra tyres each which we'll bring with us to, we think, Pakistan till our tkc80's are worn out.

The extra tyres are, of course, not in our carnet. Will this be a problem?

Cheers, Simon and Stephan

PS. First post btw, but we've been following a lot of different threads on the HUBB for a long time. This has been a huge help! Thanks for that. :thumbup1:

Wouldn't worry about it. The way I understand it you can declare the number of spare wheels you carry, rather than tyres.

They are worried by anything you could sell while in their country. If you cannot sell it then .. no. They could be worried if the tyres fitted other bikes in their country .. but your tyres are probably the wrong size (and not avalible for that reason). If that is a problem - swap the worn tyres over .. that way it is obvious that the tyres will be used to cross the country..

extra tyres ok

Perfect. So the ekstra tyres shouldn't be a problem.
We are ın Van rıght now and are headıng for Iran the day after tomorrow (whatever day that ıs :cool4: ). Cheers for the replıes!
