Help needed- Carnet extension indonesia

Hi,

I'm currently traveling in Malaysia and will be entering Indonesian in the next week or so. My carnet runs out in May and i will need to extend.

I heard a rumour that you could extend for 6 months in other countries without having to go through the process of sending the old carnet back to the Uk and getting a new one re-issued which obviously takes some time.

I would like to extend in indonesia somewhere.

I can't find any information on this so if you can help it would be fantastic.

Thanks
Russ

Normally, an extended carnet can only be used in the country where it has been extended. The cost will be about the same as a new carnet, except you don't have to pay the horrendous courier charge. Extension also requires cooperation of the AA in the country visited. In your case that would be Indonesia. Bad idea.

I suggest you delay your crossing to Indo, contact the RAC immediately for a follow-on carnet. You may be able to get it fairly quickly. You only return the old carnet once you have entered Indo on the new carnet.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
