Question cost of import into egypt from sudan

I don't have a carnet and have been told its possible to enter egypt without one. There have been some posts bounded about in the past about huge deposits neede to be laid out in order to gain entry and I was just wondering what the current situation is.

I'm a solo motorcycle rider from the UK.

cheers

Carnet

I wouldn't even want to try to get into Egypt without a Carnet! I guess it would cost massive since it already costs 100$ import fee with a Carnet...

Why not avoid Egypt and catch the ferry from Sudan to Saudi Arabia with a 3 day transit visa through Saudi? Much cheaper and less hassle for sure!

Greets

I came through from sudan to egypt in december last year with a carnet. it was full days work with a fixer, a total circus. i had the feeling if you handed over a huge deposit it would be the last you saw of it. I belive the cost is around a coupple of thousand euro. from what travelers said heading north.
Good luck.

Never, ever, evveerrr

Never, ever, ever will you make it through. It is a complete shit-fight trying to get in WITH a Carnet. As miles1 said before, this would be the very last you saw of your money and then possibly your bike IF the cash got you in.

Good Luck

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
