Uk to Australia Paper work
 

So here it is the list of things to complete, who can help me with my enquiries? im hitting brick walls left right and "boom" ... centre. OUch!

(Briefly the trip will depart Feb from Uk and will arrive in Australia mid december for the monsoon. Yippee. Uk through Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, China or fly to Bangkok Thailand, Laos, SE Asia, Borneo hopefully, Malaysia, Indonesia, Timor to Darwin Australia).

Visa's: Iran and Pakistan will get before I go. Half Tick (Besides China are there any other places that people know of on my route that I need to get a visa for before I go?

Bike third party Insurance: I am 24 tomorrow. And have a Honda Africa Twin XRV 750. Traveling from uk to Australia overland. Who will insure me Full stop, and for a reasonable price, and do I actually need to prove to boarder officials along the way that I have it. If not from those experienced is forging one an option. Personal Insurance. Who will insure me. Im feeling unwanted or like my life is worth nothing to these corporations. Im very optimistic but, If something does happen I would like to be rescued and flown to see my mother (I love her but she is also nurse). No Tick

Will I get away with my UK registration Paperwork running out halfway through the trip?

GreenCard, what is it and do I need one?

Is there anything else I am Missing that is Important. Ahhh vaccinations and accompanying documentation?

Visa's: India - you will need and can get on the road. We got ours in Islamabad.

Bike third party Insurance: Buy at the border of most countries or, if the country isn't organised enough to have a booth selling it where you actually need it to start ie at the border eg India/Iran, you will have to take a chance and ride uninsured to the nearest town and buy it there.

Personal Insurance: Try Mike Berry, at Campbell Irvine

Will I get away with my UK registration Paperwork running out halfway through the trip? SORN your bike. It won't be a problem for the countries you are going through. There's lots of threads about this on the HUBB.

GreenCard, what is it and do I need one? Again, there's lots of threads about this on the HUBB. Briefly - you no longer get a physical green card - what the green card scheme means is that your UK 3rd party cover operates in any green card scheme member state (the EU plus a number of bordering countries). So you will be able to rely on your UK insurance through the EU and it may work in Turkey as well if Turkey is part of the Green Card scheme and I am not sure re Iran. Further east of these countries you will need to buy 3rd party insurance on entry as described above.

As of October 2007, Turkey and (somewhat surprisingly) Iran were in the Green Card system, so my EU-insurance was valid (at least this is what my insurance company in Finland told me, luckily I did not need to test if their statement was correct!)... but things change, so I cannot guarantee, that this info is still valid.

From Pakistan and onwards all the way until reaching Australia, our bike had no insurance whatsoever (except Thailand, where we took the compulsory 3rd party). Do remember, though, that I do not recommend doing this, as you may get into big trouble if you have an accident.

A whole other subject is, how much those border insurances would actually cover (I would not expect them to give comprehensive cover, if there is large damage, people hospitalised, etc.), but that in itself does not make riding uninsured any more of a bright idea. So don´t do it, if you can avoid it.

I actually find it kind-of surprising, that generally insurance companies seem reluctant to offer cover for such trips (at any price, even).

Sure traffic is often very bad, but usually you have a very good motivation to stay safe, because your trip will be ruined, if you get hurt. The same goes for theft&fire, if your bike is stolen, or it burns, so once again you are likely to make sure, that this won´t happen. They could very well ask some big money for this kind of ´adventurers insurance´, but no.

I believe my bike will much rather get stolen in my home country, or in Central Europe, and yet they´re very happy to insure it for theft in those countries.

Don't forget all the paperwork required to get your bike into Australia, even as a temporary import. And it must be SPOTLESSLY clean or you get charged for the cleaning. :(
