UK/EU third party insurance

I will be buying a bike in the UK next year for a European Jaunt for 3-4 months. I will be buying the bike before i get to the UK and shipping it to my parents place for storage until i get there myself.
Once there i will need 3rd party insurance for the UK and EU countries.
I have contacted Bennetts and Carole Nash with not much luck, cant even seem to get a quote out of them and they seem to insist on you being a UK resident (which i havent been for 18 years) for 2 years to buy insurance.
I think that Arisa and the like will only issue "green card" insurance for a non-EU registered bike. Obviously it will be UK registered.
I know i can buy "green card" insurance at most borders, so i do not have aproblem with this, just i need to be insured in the UK to be legal.
Does anyone have any experience with successfully purchasing UK insurance for their bike prior to arrival from overseas? Does anyone know a good insurance company/broker that can at least give ame a quote to start with?
Any help appreciated.
PS. i am a british citizen as well, with a UK licence.

Hi, I know you haven't been a UK resident but you are still a UK citizen, right?

Presumably you're registering your bike to a UK address (you mentioned your parents) could you not just claim that address as your place of residence. I know in the UK we always think we have to follow ALL the rules but you need that insurance and you ARE qualified to ride the bike. You have to get tax and register the bike anyway and you need an address for that too.

Just a thought.
