issue a carnet abroad

hi all,

I'm planning a trip from south africa to Ethiopia and back through congo => angola

question:

in my country the coast of issue a carnet is 20,000 swiss frank (no matter which vehicle you use)

does any one know if it is possible to issue a carnet in south africa? and do you know a way to contact them (can't find that on the aa.co....za site)

you're lucky you should see how much they are in the UK ! Based on the value of the vehicle and up to 800%. Buy a new bike/car here and its a lot of money.

Anyhow i doubt you can get a carnet for a vehicle outside the registration country. If your vehicle is swiss i think they are the only ones that can issue it. There was a time when the German ADAC would issue them but now they will not. At least not for the UK.

I think the rule is that if your own country has an issuing authourity then no other authourity can issue one for you. You must use your own country. I do not know this for sure but that seems to be the case.

I think calling the German ADAC might be the way then. I think they issue carnets for countries that do not have an issuing authourity. Possibly someone else may know more.

I am a resident of Germany, UK and Australia. But it was not possible to get a carnet for my Australian registered motorcycle from another country than Australia. It has to be issued where your vehicle is registered.

Cheers,
Frank
