Turkmenistan Transit Visa
Hi there,
I'm planning a trip to the stans, crossing turkmenistan. Anybody knows about a turkmeni consulate or embassy in Baku, where i would to apply for that visa?
or otherwise, where do i have (can) to ask for it. Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

Hi...

Not much help, but I am working on this myself at the moment thought an agent (Stan Tours).

I believe Toshkent (UZB) or Dashanbe (TAJ) are the best places to apply for the TURK transit visa... Though i think waiting times are about 10 days and you MUST have a visa for Iran or AZJ and ferry ticket to prove your transiting, and a fixed route etc...

I would appreciate if anybody has any experience or more info of doing this...

David from StanTours is unable to help you with the application and due process of Turkmenistan transit visas. He can however help with standard tourist visas. We applied for our Turkmenistan transit visa - applied for a 5 day transit - whilst in Dushanbe. No problems at all. have a read here if you want all info.

We required the Express' service and paid $85 per visa. In order to obtain the transit visa you must have the visas of the country you are entering from and exiting to. In our case this was our visa for Uzbekistan and our visa into Iran.

The tourist visa is a whole other deal! and way more $$$ and paperwork. To tell the truth we only really needed 3 days to transit but always like to be on the safe side so those couple of extra days were great.

Lisa, out of interest, did you get your Iran visa in Toshkent UZB (if so any tips!) and did you need to provide details of your route through TURK??

iran visa
Hi
got our Iran visa in dushanbe with no problems at all. the fastest visa process we have ever had.
we used Stantours to get our authorization codea and stipulated that the embassy we wished to collect our iran visa from was the one in Dushanbe - we had heard good things about it. and once again we had no problems.

we did have to provide details of our route through Turkmenistan when getting our transit visa. no one double-checked it though when we were in the country. however, they are only really interested in the fact that you enter and exit via the borders that you have stipulated when applying. if you go to anothe border other than the ones entered on your Turkmen visa you will be refused entry/exit.

We will be coming from the other direction from Lisa- from Baku. We decided that the ferry schedule sounded to vague to trust and the time limits on a transit visa might be turn out to be a real problem when we finally landed in Turkmenistan.

So we opted for a tourist visa and tour (set up by David at Stantours). It will be more expensive to travel that way- guide and driver- but we will pick up our Visas in Turkmenbashi and be certain of enough time to travel in the country.

Yes the ferry is vague...but you can renew your transit visa in Ashgabat.

If you are going to be in Baku, ask when the ferry leaves to Aktau, Kazakhstan. No scort is required there and Kaz visa is easier to get than Turkmenistan one. (transit or turist) for UE citizen because no LOI. When I tried to get out the Stans, they asked me 1000$ for the guide in Turkemenistan. I rode from Nukus to Akatau and the way was really amazing (riding the moon, you know), a real desert, a lot of fun, a lot of bike damages.

I had understood from somewhere that Turkmenistan could not be counted on to issue transit visas, much less extend them if you ran out of time. Seems there is conflicting information on just about everything, eh? Probably truth to most of it, too.

When I got mine in Istanbul, the Turkmen consulate needed me to have a visa for the country I'd be exiting into from Turkmenistan BEFORE I applied for my Turkmen visa.
Once I got me Uzbek visa, I then applied for Turkmen transit and had no issues...other than the fact I sat in the port of TB for 3 days...leaving me 1 day to get to Ashgabat to renew my transit visa....which I did.

I did not have to specify a route or entry point on my application for the Turkmeni transit visa. There isn't any reference to that on the visa itself either. You do however have to specify your exit point upon entering the country, they then give you the shortest route to that point on a special piece of paper (don't lose it, same goes for the other 89 papers they give you), and you must stick to it (checkpoints enroute).

Getting the transit visa itself was easy, I got one at home before departure, but I didnt make it to the border in time (mine was only valid for four days on a specific date), and applied for a new one in Tehran, which I then picked up in Mashad. When entering all the officials where surprised that my visa was still valid (entering on the first date of the visa, not the last), and that it didn't need to be extended ...
