Turkey without Carnet - anyone done it?
 

I'm curious to hear from anyone who has recently entered Turkey on a bike and what the experience was like from a Customs and Quarantine point of view.

I will probably enter through Istanbul via container shipment from Australia.

Coming thru turkey from the uk heading towards Iran they did not want the carnet instead they gave me a gumruk trip ticket for the bike Just needed the bike registration document even thou I had a carnet
coming back from Iran they used the carnet.
customs were quick and resonable

we just crossed ýnto turkey by ferry from greece two weeks ago.no carnet needed. no problems. no fees just a 10 euro port tax for the býke. they fýlled out some forms for the býke and we were away. Uk regýstered býkes

Has anyone crossed into Turkey on a bike registered to someone else? Mine is officially (here in italy) under my dad's name (same name and surname as myself). I've no idea what doduments I need to show that he allows me to ride it abroad, since something like this seems to be necessary in Turkey.....any hints?

As far as i recall a trip of up two 2 months in Turkey is allowed without a carnet, any longer and it is necessary.

No Carnet for Turkey needed.

I have travelled to Turkey by car from Bulgaria. The car is registered in my wife's name (difficult for foreigners to register cars in Bulgaria under their own name). All it took was a power of attorney allowing me to drive the car anywhere and anytime. I bought a green card (3rd party insurance) and that was it.

Contact the TR embassy for the exact requirements. You will need written authority.

Riding someone else's bike was a lot of hassle, probably not helped by the fact that one rider, who was present, owned both bikes.

Avoid a long day at the border by getting a notarised document from the owner. I presume a translation in Turkish would help too.

Hi Dave, I guess you are talking about bikes with an Australian registration....we we have now gone into Turkey twice. First time with NSW plates second time was earlier this year with the same bikes but Queensland plates. Seems that we needed the carnets both times but a lot of people do seem to get in with out a carnet. It also seems to me that the bikes that dont need a carney are registered in the EU so that could be the difference. It is hard to get a fast ruling on that one.

I know a NZ guy who does the motorcycle tours from NZ to Turkey so he may be able to help you. E mail me if you want his contacts but I had better not publish them here. They use turkish bikes.

My friend is a french national currently in India he is shipping his bike from India to Istanbul, Turkey and from there he will ride to France and will pay import duty in France. . . can he do that ? please advise

I entered Turkey with Carnet in hand and they did not give a rats, it is not needed. I had to buy a visa for me and green card insurance and all they wanted to see is the rego papers, QLD plated

Just entered Turkey from Greece on bike this week. Had to buy Visa a for me 15 Euro and 3 month minimum insurance for bike 30 Euro at the border point. Took 45 min total time. Had to show my passport, bike registration document. Done. No carnet required.

Old thread but seems still in need.
So some updates.....

1-Citizens of EU.countries can enter Turkey without a passport if they have digital identity cards.In this case, a separate paper will be stamped for you and back side of the paper for your vehicle..
2-Bike registration documents, road insurance (If your green insurance doesnt cover Turkey)
is requested at bordergates.
3-Bikes are permitted to stay maxsimum 6 months per year after entrance.(If you are retired,this period is 360 days..
4-You can buy your insurance for minimum 1 months according to the period you will keep your bike here.
5-be careful it will be written a motocycle.(Motosiklet)
Otherwise you will meet problems while exiting.
