Trouble getting Insurance for foreign bike in UK

Hi everyone,
Im in london with a Singapore registered bike, and i cant get 3rd party insurance. I called RAC and even they said its not possible. As the bike is not UK registered. I called another company and they said they cant do it as i dont have a permanent UK address! In Germany, it was very easy, walk into the ADAC and you get Green Card insurance immediately at 22Euros a month.
Anyone has any idea how i get insurance for UK. Just third party liability.

Thanks in advance
Dalbir

Hi Dalbir

It seems crazy that you cant buy some insurance in the UK. There is this link on the HU M/C insurance page: http://www.knopftours.com/Amerika/Gr...for_europ.html
It might be worth a try.

Hope you get sorted

Dalbir,

Let me know if I can help with a permanent UK address - I'm in Oxford, postcode is OX3 8HF.

It has been the case for some time that UK insurance companies won't insure foreign registered vehicles.

As suggested above knopftours may be able to assist with greencard cover. I have used this company and they are very efficient.

The other possibilty, if you intend to stay here for any length of time, is to temporarily import the vehicle into the UK. There is a little paperwork to do but again the best source for information will be the RAC/AA. As a temporary import you probably would not be liable for any VAT on the vehicle so cost would be minimal.

Thanks for all the responses guys.
I no longer needed the insurance as my(Singapore Reg) bike got nicked in Feb(though recovered,)
I'll be on a UK registered bike soon, and hope getting insurance will be easier.
Singapore Citizen, with a UK Reg Bike.
