Transferring carnet in Africa?

Hi,

I've heard about people driving a UK reg vehicle London-Cape Town (or similar) and then transferring the vehicle and carnet to someone else to drive back. Whilst I think this is technically illegal on the carnet without paying duty it seems to be quite possible.

Can anyone tell me how how this works re vehicle registration and carnet and how best to organise it?

Thanks,
Jackie
