The EU Trip 2001

We're bought our first Beemer, an '82 R100RS and did the New Forest successfully this year. We now plan to do UK, Northern France, Germany (Romantische Strasse), Austria (Innsbruck), Switzerland, France (Auxerre) this summer.
Am asking for any advice that you may have please, including whether its right that Green Cards are now not required for continental Europe - my insurance company says not. Ant do's and don't would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I would be wary of the statement that the green card is not required for continental Europe. Check with several insurance companies and if you get the same answer from all of them, then maybe the rules have changed. Which doesn't mean that if you get stopped by police somewhere that they aren't going to ask for the green card!

However, what may also be the case is that your insurance company doesn't want to be bothered. Tell them you want the green card, we know of travellers who have made a fuss with their UK insurers, and got the green card.
