Temporary Import In Turkey via Air.. Triumph Tiger 800XC

Hello all. I am planning on starting my trip from Istanbul, Turkey so I can escape the deposit for Carnet De Passage. I simply do not have that kind of money. :(

I read about it on HUBB that one need to deposit some amount to get temporary i port permit in Turkey. Does anybody here have an idea how much deposit are we looking at? I read it is determined by weight of the vehicle. My Tiger weighs around 230KGs fully fuelled. How much deposit will I need to keep with them to release the bike through customs.

It would have been much secure to enter via land border because then I can turn around but flying in the bike will have no option.

Please help.. I plan to ride to Europe and UK from there and ship the bike to USA or Canada. Any information regarding that would be helpful too..

Cheers
Sharik

Merhaba,

First of all you dont need to deposit any amount in turkey for that purpose.Wrong information and thats why I keep ignore list here..

You just need to buy turkish road insurance policy say for 3 months about 20 euros if you dont have green card or if it doesnt cover turkey and give photo copies of all official documents attached to the application letter to the customs headquarters.Details below.

First buy the Ordino, (B/UL. which you will buy at the İstanbul agent of your freight company for local expenses, such as unloading, warehouse, lifter),

Other photocopy documents that will be needed are, insurance, your interested passport pages, bike registration form and an application letter written to the headquarters of customs management..
freight agent here will help you to write it sure and describe where to start and how to do.
If not, send me the name of the arrival port, number of the B/L. then I will send you the letter online.

Better stay at şirinevler part of the city so that you can easily and fast go to the air customs buildings.you can take the aksaray-airport metro at şirinevler directly to the airport or taxi which will take about 10 mınutes..

1-Air cargo terminal is outside the passenger airport opposite of the high THY main building.
2-Find the agent and buy the ordino that will include warehouse and local expenses. All air agent offices are at the 2 floored building left next to the THY.cargo warehouse.
3-Go to the 3 rd. floor of the 6 floored customs building right next to the turkish airlines cargo warehouse.
3-get the signature of the customs manager and id.number of the customs guy who will open and check your crate. There are 4 warehouses run by 4 different companies, THY. Havaş,Mng,Çelebi.
4-Meet the guy inside the warehouse where your cargo is and collect all the stamps and signatures on your application letter.Your crate will be opened at this stage together with you and numberplate, engine number etc. will be checked here
5- at the end, get your stamp on your passport page for the entrance of the bike with permission to stay max. 180 days..
6-get the crate out by the lifter to a corner at the parking area in front of the warehouse.(already paid at the agent)
7-At the end of each step, you will be friendly forwarded to the following step as this is red zone area and only you can enter as being the owner of the vehicle.

It generally takes half day to complete the paperwork and the lifters start working in the afternoons. So better to be there early in the morning.

All additional questions welcome..
All the best..

Hello Mehmet,

You're the boss. I had been looking to confirm all this info on the internet since long. I am too scared of customs and all the paperwork for I have been getting different answers about carnet and even bringing the bike back in India. I do not have the money for the deposit. And they tell me I need Carnet for bringing it back to India. haha.. I had been running to customs department in India just to make sure I can bring it back without paying the duties again. I have already paid over $10,000 duty and taxes on my Tiger 800XC while I bought it.. hhahaha..

But honestly. Thanks to you truly from my heart. I will trouble you again if I have any troubles there.. :D

Cheers
Sharik
