Sudan Embassy London - v. strange

I have just returned from a very frustrating visit to the Sudanese Embassy in London.

I was originally planning to head through the Sudan in November and so, accordingly applied for my visa in August.
After postponing the trip until April this year, I notified the embassy and collected my passport back from them.
I went in today to reapply, only to be told that they still hadn't received an answer back from Khartoum for my original application (I never cancelled the application) and that I could not re-apply.

"No problem", I thought and asked them if they were prepared to contact Khartoum to chase up my original application and at the same time change the entry dates. After all, the original dates have by now expired.
"No can do", was the answer.

SO do I :
a) call the embassy next week in the hope of speaking to a different official who may be more helpful.

b)Cancel my application and apply from Cairo.

I don't really want to do the latter as, being so close to summer, I'm not keen to risk spending a month in Egypt waiting for a visa and then having to drive through Sudan in mid-summer.

Can anyone who has had dealings with the Sudanese Embassy please give me any advice on how to tackle this issue?

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

These are the facts! (I am in Cairo now)

-Sudan embassy open from sunday to wednesday from 9-11 am
-Bring a letter of Recomm. from your embassy in Cairo
-4 passport foto's
-56 dollars (only dollars accepted!)

You will have to be back at the embassy at 1500 hours to pick up your visa, but try to pay for your visa in the morning as the cash office will be closed in the afternoon! (Or come back the next day at 1000 hours)

Be patients with the people as they are really african! And have a laugh when you pickup your visa as when you enter the office upstairs you will see why they say your application might get lost behind the radiator!!!!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
