Sudan and Libya - Visas

Hello !

Does anyone know how easy it is to get a visa for Sudan (from Kenya or Ethiopia as we travel north)....and any suggestions on safe routes ??

Also, what about visas for Libya ?? Are they easy to get hold of en route ? And from where ?? (Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt ??)

Thanks !!

Hey Melissa,

As luck would have it, I think I might be going to the Sudanese Embassy in Dar es Salaam on monday. I'm also applying for a visa. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I take it you have a passport from the UK? (just for pricing info)

Brian

I did everything right (paperwork, letters, translation, Libyan contact, $$$, etc) and the Libyans still declined to give me a visa. Not sure why.

I would say it's hard enough from London; almost impossible on the road.

The Sudanese visa is around $50 for Americans and takes around three weeks. At least that's what the guy in Dar told me. I'm going back in a few weeks if you need more information and can't get a hold of it yourself. Just let me know what information you want.

When are you planning on going through east africa?

Thanks for your replies !

I'll be in Dar es salam in about a week r two, so I'll see what to do then i guess. Let me know if you manage to get hold of a visa in the meantime - especially with the whole sanctions situation at the mo.

3 weeks is a bit shocking !!

cheers !

I spoke with the guy at the embassy again. He now says overlanders need to get their visa in Addis Ababa and it takes at least a week. Hope this helps.
