Storing bike in Peru or Bolivia
 

Due to medical problems, I got a late start on my trip from Texas to the bottom of South America. So had planned to store bike in Bolivia and return in November to finish the trip. Need to go home to work and further medical monitoring. Am currently in Peru north of Lima. When in Macara, Ecuador, I spoke with the consul there and he said I needed to go to Peruvian Automobile Touring Club in Lima to arrange this. Would this be a carnet? Does anybody know if Bolivia is easier? My time is running out to make this happen which is why I am considering Peru. Hate to rush!!
I am riding a very nice 1983 Honda XL250R which I bought 13 years ago just for a trip like this. I do consider it to be the perfect disposable motorcycle, but not yet. Muddauber

You can routinely get 8 months on your tourist vehicle permit in Argentina. I know it's a ways away, but might be your surest bet.

The Peruvian Auto Club can arrange a carnet but dont expect it to be easy (or cheap!).

As far as I know the only country where you can legally leave a bike is Argentina, Javier & Sandra at Dakar Motos know how to arrange that - send Javier a PM.
