South African motorbike to Botswana: carnet?
Hi all, only 3 weeks to go and a doubt arises: with a South African registered motorbike, is it necessary a carnet de passage to travel to Botswana?
I was sure it isn't, but I can't find where I read it and I don't want problem on the border! Ciao! Mirco |
No carnet
Nope, none needed. South Africa and Botswana belongs to the same customs union so you don't even need a temporary import permit.
Road tax is about $7 IIRC |
Bee through there recently
You don't need a carnet - and theoretically, you don't need the bike's ownership papers.
However - we DID get asked for it, every time. (They need to record the chassis / engine number) If you DONT have the papers - tell the customs people to look for the info they need, on the bike's TAX disc. SO - to make it clear: you don't legally NEED to have the bikes' paper work, but it will make life easier if you do... |
Perfect! Thank you very much for the infos and for your helpfullness!
Now all seems to be ok: 2 weeks and we go! Thank you again, bye! Mirco |
