Selling UK bike in Mexico

We rode our UK bikes from Canada, through the US, into Mexico and got the temporary vehicle import permits. We now want to sell our bikes here in Cancun and go home. We are concerned about the paperwork side of things - is it possible to sell a bike that's been temporarily imported? do you get charged an import fee? the bikes are less than 10 years old. We are not US or Canadian citizens either. Our Spanish is way too basic to tackle this kind of complicated conversation locally! any help or pointers towards websites much appreciated

I don't think you can, period.

I don't think you can at all legally, or even illegaly anymore. I sold a VW Combi in Mexico 30 years ago when you sort of could...sold it to the brother of a Policia Nacional - so that helped.
I think you will be barred from Mexico for 10 years if you don't export your bikes......something like that, or big fine.
Read the bottom of Mexico Mike's page here...just in case you need
confirmation - he's been there forever and knows about everyhting there is to know about Mexico-------

Expired or Lost Mexican Immigration Visa Permits (FMT) And Car Permits

You could advertise and sell to a traveller but I think you have to take
moto over the border - Mexico is kind of sticky about all this now and all the border crossings have computer hookup so you can't fake them out anymore.

If you are stuck and want to sell/leave here in US for another riders to buy, I could help you for about 4 months, but then I think I'm leaving too. I'm just over the border in New Mexico, from Puerto Palomas, Chihuahua and also in Santa Fe sometimes.

You can't sell in US either, except to someone taking bike over border.
You can sell in Costa Rica, but you won't get a good price because buyer has to pay import tax, but it can be done there. Salvador, Belize, Guata, Honduras I don't know about.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
