Selling a U.S registered bike in Europe
I'm going to ship my recently registred U.S bike to Ireland and begin my Africa trip from there and back to Ireland again. I hold an Irish and U.S citizenship, I would like to register the bike in Ireland and leave it there after the trip is over. If I own the bike for more than 6 months I don't have to pay the excessive import taxes in republic of Ireland (about 40% of the bike value) I plan to register it in Ireland after the Africa trip. Now I'm going to fly the bike to Belfast (U.K) just as a temorary import (will get Green Card insurance..etc) so I should be able to drive it form the Airport. If I plan to register it later in Ireland how do I deal with U.S cuctoms? should I complete some paper work prior to leaving the U.S or can that be done from Europe? Thanks Mike

US doesn't care about a bike LEAVING the US permanently. You should notify the motor vehicle office and cancel the registration, but that's it.
