is seller still liable after bike purchase

I have a friend in California who will buy a bike for me until I arrive to the US. I gave him power of attorney to transfer the title for me with DMV so I have the title in my name asap. The Seller is afraid to be still liable after we did the transaction and exchanged money and bike.
Does he has to be concerned and if yes what can be done ?

hard to say for sure because the States have a more litigous culture. In europe your friend, who is acting as a broker rather than a vendor would have limited liability, would not be liable for anything in the product (i.e. the bike)

Providing a receipt for the bike that states 'sold as seen' would remove all liability from the vendor in the UK (might be the same state-side), placing responsibility for the vehicles road-worthiness etc solely with the new owner.
